Summer Reading 2024 Week 1!

Summer Reading has offcially begun here at the Bremen Public Library! Week 1 has been off to a great start, with over 40 teens registered for Summer Reading. Already teens have participated in programs such as Paint Your Heart Out and Raingutter Regatta. This summer BPL has partnered with our local Boys & Girls Club to offer programs every Thursday for their teens. Our Teen Advisory Board (TAB) held their first Care Cabinet Drive and had over 100 items donated! For more information about the Care Cabinet click here. Summer Reading Week 8

And that's a wrap folks! This Marks the end of our Young Adult Summer Reading Program. These teens celebrated the end of SRP 2022 with a Percy Jackson Party! They were split up into 3 teams. Team Hades, Team Zeus, and Team Poseidon. They were challenged to make their own laurels, togas, and banners. The team that did the best won prizes. The winning team for this activity was... TEAM HADES! Congratulations Team Hades! 

 We would also like to give a special shoutout/thank you to Coach Yoder and the Bremen High School Boys Soccer Team for helping us get ready for our annual Friends of the Bremen Public Library Book Sale. Summer Reading Week 7

  Week seven of our Young Adult Summer Reading Program was a SPLASH! Teens got to participate in our Blacklight Bingo Night Program. 

To date we have over 100 Young Adults signed up for our Summer Reading Program! We only have one week left of Summer Reading! Make sure you get all your tickets turned in before July 30th. 

Summer Reading Week 6

These teens really took a BITE out of week 6 of our Summer Reading Program! This week teens celebrated Shark Week with a Shark Suncatcher Craft, and took JAW-some pictures at our shark photo booth!

Summer Reading Week 4

Week three of our Young Adult Summer Reading Program was a whale of a good time! This week, which ran June 20th-25th, teens worked on their Cryptid Stories in graphic novel/comic book format at our Creative Writing group, watched One Piece as part of our Anime Club, and finished our Titanic Lego!

Summer Reading Week 2

Week two of our Young Adult Summer Reading Program may have been hot, but that didn't stop these teens from participating! This week, which ran June 13th-18th, teens got to make marbled mugs, continue their Cryptid Stories for Creative Writing, participate in the Bremen Fireman's Festival Parade, and participate in our Books to Big Screen book/movie discussion!

Summer Reading Week 1

Week one of our Young Adult Summer Reading Program was a BLAST! This week, which ran June 6th-11th, teens got to explore the Titanic on a virtual tour, Creative Writing, Raingutter Regatta with River Watson from the Marshall County Recycle Depot, and Mini Ships in a bottle!

Summer Reading 2022

 

It's finally here! 

 The Bremen Public Library is happy to announce the start of the 2022 Summer Reading Program, Oceans of Possibilities!

Registration begins on May 30th, and the reading program runs June 6th-July 30th!

Students entering grades 6-12 are eligible for the Young Adult Summer Reading Program.

For every book read, you'll receive one entry in the drawing towards the basket of your choice. There are 6 different baskets to choose from!

We are offering several AMAZING, and fun programs for teens here at the Bremen Public Library! Registration begins on May 30th, and the reading program runs June 6th-July 30th!

Catch a Wave: Creative Writing Club

June 7, 14, 21, & 28 at 4:00-5:00 

 

Join our Summer Creative Writing Club where we will write our very own Cryptid Story. On July 3rd, winners will be selected and receive a small prize. 

Raingutter Regatta 

June 9th at 4:00-5:00

Join us for an upcycling program in partnership with the Marshall County Recycle Depot. Come build your very own sailboat using various recyclable materials, and race them! While Supplies last.  

Mini Ships in a Bottle Craft 

June 11th at 1:30-2:30

Welcome Back! 

Programs, Activities, and the Summer Reading Program -- Tails and Tales

Now that school is over for this year and the summer is beginning, the library is rolling out this year's summer reading program: Tails and Tales. This program is centered more around animals this year, moreover, we'll have some animal themed activities throughout the program's length, June 7th to July 31st. The summer reading program works like this, for every book you read, you'll receive one entry in the drawing towards one of the prize baskets. The prize basket winners will be drawn at the end of the program, July 31st, and that will be the last day to submit your summer reading entries. What are these baskets you ask, well there are 7 baskets to choose from with prizes being:

1. Cute fruit squishy ball pack, chocolate chip cookie candle, Chipotle gift card, TASTY Desserts cookbook, avocado keychain, Jorbest Burritos blanket.

2. Kaliruba Thumb piano, set of drumstick pens, Music Genius playing cards.

3. Gift cards to AMC, popcorn, candy, Mario socks.

4. Harry Potter spell book, Fantastic Beasts book and model set, Harry Potter bookmarks, Harry Potter time turner sticker kit, Harry Potter charm, Harry Potter keychain, Wand, Fantastic Beasts stupefy journal.

5. Gift card to Strikes & Spares, Pac Man socks, mini skeeball game.

6. Kodak Printomatic Camera with case, pack of photo paper.

7. Calligraphy Set, Lettering handbook, Bob Ross Bookmarks, notepad.

These aren't the only prizes available to those who participate in the summer reading program. Every Friday, a winner will be drawn for a small prize, and anyone who signed up for the program will be automatically entered into the drawing. Also, each Wednesday, you can take a quack at our duck tub for a chance to win a prize. And sometime during the summer, we will have a "guess how many" jar that will give you the opportunity to win a prize.

Some specific animal themed activities/events we will be hosting are: send in a photo of you reading to your pet and it will be featured in our lobby display and decorate feathers to add to our wings mural. Decorating a feather to add to our wings mural will start on Saturday, June 5th, and go through the entire summer reading program. At the end of the reading program, Saturday, July 31st, you can get your photo taken with the wings mural. These are not the only events that are themed after animals, we will also have a day where you can Pin the Tail on the Donkey on Monday, June 7th. On this day, everyone checking out materials gets the chance to pin the tail on the donkey for a chance to win a Shrek DVD set. We will also have an Animal Origami program on Monday, July 27th at 5:00 p.m. Another somewhat animal themed activity is on Thursday, June 9th at 6:00 p.m., where there will be a movie showing of The Aristocats with snacks. These animal themed activities aren't the only activities the library is hosting during the summer season, we will also have:

• We will be in the parade, and all over town during the Fireman's Festival, Thursday, June 15th, which is also the parade day, to Saturday June 19th and we will be dressed as your favorite book characters.
• There will be a scavenger hunt on Saturday, June 19th from 9:45 a.m. to noon where there will be activities around the town, pizza, and prizes.
• The Brick Club also has an event on Monday, June 21st where they will use LEGO bricks to study concepts, develop math and science skills, work in teams, and have fun.
• On Monday, June 28th at 6:00 p.m., there will be an activity where you can get a step-by-step tutorial on how to create pony-tails.
• On Thursday, July 1st from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. there will be a karaoke night at the library.
• And on Friday, July 23rd from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. there will be an after-hours game of book dominos throughout the building and Domino's Pizza.

This summer, the library will be the place to be for solid summer fun with our animal themed activities and summer reading program. So, don't miss out this summer on what the library has to offer for an exciting and fun summer.

A Universe of Stories

Bremen Public Library's Summer Reading Program blasts off this Saturday to the theme of A Universe of Stories. Grades 6 thru 12 can earn one entry into the prize drawing for every book read between June 1st and July 20th!

Gift baskets will be awarded to 5 lucky participants on July 22nd.

In addition, there will be 7 weeks of FREE programming with numerous GIVEAWAYS!

Fluid Painting - Tuesday, June 4th, 1:00 to 2:00

It's messy. It's artsy. It's fun. It's fluid painting (also known as pour painting) and open to middle and high school students. Artist Susie Schaetzle of Create-UR-Canvas will provide materials and instruction.

Registration is required and limited to the first 20 to register.

Photography Challenge - Tuesday, June 11th, 1:00 to 2:00

Grab your favorite picture-taking device and venture out on this field trip. Individuals will be issued a literary title and challenged to snap a photo to capture its meaning. This program is designed for students in middle and high school, but all ages are welcome.

Entries will be featured on our social media pages and three photographers will have the opportunity to win a special prize!

Nintendo Gaming - Tuesday, June 18th, 1:00 to 2:30

Show off your skills and get ready for some friendly competition as we gather for Nintendo Gaming! Nintendo of America representative Nathan Hilbert will be joining us to help demonstrate the latest and most popular games.

Adventures in Clue - Tuesday, June 25th, 1:00 to 2:30

If you enjoy the board game Clue, you'll love it with a twist. Editions such as The Big Bang Theory, Scooby-Doo, and Harry Potter will all be on hand! Join us for this time of competitive fun. This program is designed for students in middle school and high school, but all ages are welcome.

Participants who dress up as one of the original Clue characters (Miss Scarlet, Mrs. Peacock, Mrs. White, Professor Plum, Colonel Mustard, Mr. Green) will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a Clue game of their own!

Brick Club: The Lego Movie 2 - Tuesday, July 2nd, 1:00 to 2:30

Get ready for more building adventures in this extra-special LEGO Movie 2 themed Brick Club! Inspired by the film, these sets will send you on an epic journey to go where no brick has gone before. We'll be featuring Queen Watevra's Build Whatever Box, Emmet and Lucy's Escape Buggy, and the Pop-Up Party Bus. Young adults, children and families are encouraged to participate in this time of creativity and imagination.

Nintendo Gaming - Tuesday, July 9th, 1:00 to 2:30

A Conversation with Author Tracy Korn - Tuesday, July 16th, 1:00 to 2:00

Everyone is invited to meet Tracy Korn, young adult author and veteran English teacher. She will discuss her science fiction series, The Elements, a four-book saga about transcending, facing fears, and of becoming who you're meant to be...all starting on the the ocean floor! Korn will give book talks, teach a writing workshop and conduct a cosplay contest. The hour will conclude with a time for Q & A and book signing.

Come dressed as a character from one of her books and you could win one of three prize packages! The grand prize is a set of hardcover book and a professional photo session. The photo will be featured on Korn's social media and in her newsletter. Second place is a set of paperbacks and third place a set of ebooks of the individual's choice.

Summer Reading Program

Sign-ups for SRP 2017 begin today for the Young Adult and Children’s Departments! Are you as excited as I am? What’s that…you’re more excited? Inconceivable! Although, with a full slate of fun-filled programs on the agenda there’s enough thrills to go around. So let me take a minute, just sit right there, and I’ll tell you about some of what’s in store.

Thursday, June 1 – 1:00 to 2:00 – Stack it Up!

Participants in Sport Stacking (AKA Cup Stacking) have long enjoyed building structures and towers. But this summer we will travel around the globe and recreate some of the world's greatest landmarks. Egyptian pyramids, castles of Europe, the Great Wall of China, India's Taj Majal, the Eiffel Tower of Paris, and more! A magician, school speaker, entertainer and author, Mr. Jim has been hosting library programs for over 20 years! All ages welcome.

Tuesday, June 6 – 1:00 to 2:00 – Hands on Science

Become a WATER WARRIOR! Debbie Palmer of the Marshall County Soil and Water Conservation District will present a hands-on interactive exploration regarding the different causes of water pollution. Learn about how your decisions and actions, as part of the larger community, can impact water quality. The Young Adult Summer Reading Club is for students entering grades 5-12.

Tuesday, June 13 – 1:00 to 2:00 – Photography Walk

Grab your favorite picture-taking device and venture out on this field trip to explore and photograph the architecture surrounding Bremen Public Library. Prize will be awarded for the most unique capturing! The Young Adult Summer Reading Club is for students entering grades 5-12.

Tuesday, June 20 – 1:00 to 2:30 – Adventures in Monopoly

If you enjoy Monopoly, you’ll love it with a twist. Editions such as National Parks, Disney, Jurassic World, M & M, and Dino-Opoly will all be on hand! Join us for this time of competitive fun. All ages invited.

Tuesday, June 27 – 1:00 to 2:30 – Brick Club: DC and Marvel

Join us for an extra-special superhero themed Brick Club. Kits featuring Batman, Spider-Man and The Avengers will be available for building and exploration! Young adults, children and families are encouraged to join us for this time of imagination. We will use LEGO bricks to study concepts via themes, develop math and science skills, work in teams and have fun! All ages invited.

Tuesday, July 11 – 1:00 to 2:30 – Wii Gaming

Show off your skills and get ready for some friendly competition as we gather to do some Wii gaming. As a bonus: New featured games will be on hand! All ages invited to participate.
